-Die Leere - a German word that can be equally translated as emptiness, void or absence.
The following project derived from my personal interest of one of the most fundamental yet most often misunderstood phenomenons in the creation of architecture: empty space. After an extensive research of the qualities and different expressions of emptiness, the idea of emptiness being far more than the absence of something began to emerge. The essential presumtion of the following project is that the empty space is a architectural condition that has played a vital role in the creation of sublime spaces. Yet emptiness in terms of architectural creation must be more than the simple absence of matter. If understood as a potential, emptiness is a powerful and necessary tool for architects.
